Poor Judgment Hill

OK, here's my long-overdue take on P.J. Hill's recent run-away from the law:

If only he had better breakaway speed (remember how much crap he got for getting caught from behind twice against Florida State?), those cops would never have caught him.

Good night! I'll be here all week!

Seriously, though, what a shame. Reports were that he had significantly reshaped his body for the better since declaring for the draft, dropping 20 pounds and cutting his body fat nearly in half. His 40 time was around 4.6, which is maybe a tenth of a second better than I figured it would be, and his vertical leap was 37 inches -- not bad.

So it appeared he was improving his stock to that of maybe a third- or fourth-round pick. Now, it's not hard to see him going undrafted. Anttaj Hawthorne suffered a huge drop several years ago after his positive weed test, and he was a more highly-rated prospect to begin with.

A smart friend of mine made the comment that if Hill was still with the program, the cops would have probably said something to him like "Come on, P.J., you know you shouldn't be doing this," before driving him home.

One last sort of funny thing from the incident:

Hill was released Monday on a signature bond with conditions that he not drink alcohol and not frequent the Open Pantry on Regent St. in Madison.

What's wrong with the Open Pantry? Yes, they have some of the finest Olde English 40-ounce prices in the Regent Street area, but it's not like the place is a liquor store. I bought some Nutty Bars there once.

Also worth noting, he has charges pending in Scottsdale, Arizona for speeding and drunk driving. He should claim mistaken identity and blame it on PJ Hill the basketball player for Ohio State.
