Will meets A-Rod?

Will just texted me a little while ago and said A-Rod had just walked into the sports bar he's at. Where is this magical place - Toots Shor's?

So what happened when you confronted him about his past October shortcomings? Details, buddy!

Yes, it was an odd evening. I was there with two friends watching the baseball game when A-Rod strolled in by himself to meet a group of guys. The bar was on the Upper East Side, not far from where A-Rod lives - but the bar was not a very fancy one.

Nobody really bothered him, although everyone started whipping out their cell phones - like I did - and started calling/texting friends. Must be kind of strange to always elicit that reaction.

One thing you forget about A-Rod from just watching him on TV: he's huge. The guy is 6-4 and weighs more than 200 pounds. The only time I noticed getting somewhat vocal was that close play at first where the umpire ruled Helton out.

There was actually another celebrity there as well: Timothy Busfield. He's the guy from Revenge of the Nerds (the guy who played the violin), Little Big League, 30-Something, West Wing, etc. He was just eating at the bar watching the game.

Speaking of Toot's Shor...did you know Taps that they just came out with a documentary on the bar? I think it might have screened for like one day in NYC, but I'm sure it will be available on netflix at somepoint. It got good reviews.

I will always remember Timothy Busfield for his time on Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.

Good for A-Rod that he's not scared to go out in public, I wouldn't have expected he'd be able to do that. It's incredible that guys like him and Ripken were able to play SS at that size.

Read about the Toots Shor doc in SI a couple weeks ago, will definitely get it ... if I remember.
