Ice thawing: Big Ten Network nears deal with cable operator

Schwalbach emailed me giddily today that the Big Ten Network is nearing a deal with Comcast. About freaking time, guys! Now how about Time Warner?

This hasn't impacted me, a satellite guy, this season, but I can't help thinking about a comment Corbett made earlier this season: out of sight, out of mind. Now that the ice is thawing on this freeze between the network and the cable operators, maybe the BTN can realize its full potential for helping grow the league.

Dern it. I just switched to a local provider. They hook me up Thursday. Does this agreement include Charter?

I still think BTN could hurt some schools in recruiting. I'm not sure about this, but it's just a feeling I have at this point. I'd rather have UW playing on a national stage such as ESPN, CBS, ABC, etc a handfull of times per season than be stuck on BTN with limited exposure. That may swing some recruits away who want more exposure. I'll be interested to see what happens to our national exposure as more games are played on BTN.
